Thoroughgood Professional Plumbing Services: local SEO for a Central Coast plumber since 1949
How JWWD runs ongoing local SEO for a family plumbing business that has looked after the Central Coast since 1949: suburb pages, useful content, Google Business Profile work and the technical housekeeping behind it.
The brief
Thoroughgood Professional Plumbing Services is a third-generation family business, proudly Indigenous owned and Supply Nation Registered. It has a strong local reputation and a steady stream of good reviews.
Online, that reputation needed to turn into visibility. When a pipe bursts in Terrigal or a drain backs up in Wyong, people search, call whoever Google shows them, and rarely look past the map results or the first few listings. The job was to make sure Thoroughgood shows up for the suburbs and services it actually covers.
What we do
The website was designed by Willow Jam Media and built in collaboration with JWWD. Since then, JWWD has looked after search for Thoroughgood Plumbing on an ongoing basis:
- Location pages: a Locations hub and more than 20 suburb pages, each written about that suburb, from coastal salt air to holiday rentals and strata blocks, with local FAQs.
- Service content: a central emergency plumber page, a landing page for Leak SmartShield by Caroma, refreshed gas plumbing and strata pages, and practical guides such as blocked drains and strata responsibilities.
- Google Business Profile: service areas aligned with the suburb pages, a full review of the profile’s settings, and regular posts.
- Technical cleanup: redirects, indexing issues, alt text, and conversion tracking so enquiries can be traced back to the pages that produced them.
Finding the one setting that mattered
For core searches like “central coast plumber”, Thoroughgood wasn’t showing in Google’s map results, even though on paper it should have. It had more reviews than most of the plumbers that were showing, the longest history of any of them and a central location.
So we compared its Google Business Profile, line by line, against the plumbers Google was showing. One difference stood out: almost all of them were listed as open 24 hours. Thoroughgood’s profile showed standard weekday hours, even though the business offers 24/7 emergency assistance.
After confirming the team could cover after-hours calls, we updated the hours to match the service. It took minutes to change, but it took careful diagnosis to find, and it removed the single setting holding back Thoroughgood’s map visibility.
Housekeeping that protects the work
Older sites collect broken links. Old blog addresses, retired offers and renamed pages were returning errors, and some redirects were chaining through two hops.
- Every old URL with a live equivalent now redirects in a single hop to the closest relevant page.
- Genuine junk is left to 404 instead of being pointed somewhere unhelpful.
- New pages are submitted for indexing as they go live, so search engines pick them up quickly.
The result
Thoroughgood’s search presence now reflects the business: a long-standing local plumber with real coverage across the Central Coast, a Google profile that matches how it actually works, and a site that keeps getting more useful each month. It’s the kind of steady, practical SEO JWWD does best.
